I replaced a section of 1.5" flexible tubing but I have a crack in one jet. Can you still get those jets for wood hot tubs? Hydrojet HY10 is what I see in the owners manual. Its the last one is series on the end. I would need two 1.5" plugs for one end and a new gasket for the jet. I can still reuse the threaded jet section inside the tub, but the special wrench would be better than a pipe wrench to remove I am sure. So I would need: Jet housing 2 plugs gasket special tool You can Paypal me an invoice at above email if that would help. I am in canton NY 13617 for shipping. Thanks!!

Message: Hello, I contacted you I believe last Friday night/early Saturday (Oct, 4th-5th). Just wanted to make sure you got the message as I never received a confirmation for the ticket. I just wanted to add to that ticket two more questions: 1. It looks like I have a 2-speed pump one, 1-speed pump 2 AND a 24hr circulation pump. How does that work? As everywhere I have read regarding the VS500z it says if you have a circulation pump you wont have a 2-speed pump 1. 2. On other question. I have been in contact with Balboa support as well. They mentioned that any M7 heater unit will work as long as you have a 1.5" pipe and atleast 23 GPM. Does this mean the 5.5kw that comes with the Balbao BP501 will work with a E14 circulation pump? Ialso don't understand why my current 4kw M7 heater wont work with the BP501. They said it's "not recommended" with no real reasons.

Problem with Infinity Hot Tub

Message: I have been tinkering with a infinity hot tub that was given to me. I haven't been able to get it to start at all. So far I've replaced the control pad, heater sensors, even the pump. Always with the same results. It goes through it's prime mode the heater clicks it says EC. The gives me the dry heater code. Or bad sensor code. I've tried purging the pump. The 30 amp ceramic fuse was blown and when I replaced it it blew again immediately. That lead me to believe the motor was to blame. But I got the same results with the new motor. My next move is replacing the circuit board. Balboa 55230. Any advice? Help me please!

Message: Hi, I have a Saratoga spa with a Balboa VS514SZ pack installed. The breaker trips as soon as I turn it on. I disconnected the brass strap from the heater and the breaker does not trip anymore so I think I isolated the problem to the heater being faulty. I'm about to purchase the heater from your site. The Balboa part number is 58083 (5.5kw incoloy). However, I noticed that a titanium version is also available (Balboa part number 55624). Will it fit instead of 58083? Is it worth it? Last question: I'm from Canada. Where do you ship from? Will I need to pay any duties/taxes? Thanks! Louis

Message: We purchased the VS501Z from you in January of 2011. I installed it myself and it has worked pefrectly for two and a half years. Now of course the warranty has expired and we have an issue. It is blowing the main breaker panel GFCI and it cannot be reset. I disconnected the Spa pack and the breaker did reset so it is not a breaker problem. Do you have any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot the pack to isolate the problem and see if you have a replacement part that will fix the issue? If the lifespan of these packs is only 2 years without the ability to repair them I doubt I would buy another one so I would appreciate your help. Thanks Deb Starchuk

Can you recommend the proper Balboa retrofit unit, with top side control pack (rectangle opening)? I am thinking the VS510SZ, but my circulation pump doesn't put out 23 gpm and I am only running single speed main pumps. Thanks in advance for your help.

Balboa vs501 top side controller issue

Message: I recently purchased a Balboa vs501 (fall of 2012) and have just completed the deck and hooked up the gear to energize my tub. It ran through the pr mode and heated to 94 degrees but I could not energize the jets, in facts the jets button didnt seem to work at all. Seems the nothern lights top side contoller I got with the Bablao vs501 dont seem to like each other. The light only turns on when you push the warm button, the jets turm on when i push the light botton and nothing happens when i push the jets button. When i pushed the cold button the temperature increased so i set it at 102 and the heater is running with the pump on low speed. I have no idea what the issue is. The top side is plugged into the correct port on the drawing but seems to not be recognized by theBalbao vs501. Can you assist with any fix for this. The unit has only been fired up today for the first time and was stored inside my house until this weekend before installing. The tub is working but obviously not as intended. Thanks

Message: Hi Guys, thank you, thank you, got my tub last week I am more than pleased with the quality and craftmanship I'm just waiting for a certain electrical part to finalize the assembly. A few questions... I have theBalboa 500Z series spa pack 120 v with 4 jets on my Ofuro Tub. 1st question..... What is the limit on how far away the spa pack can be from the tub without affecting the jet effectiveness or heating etc. also is it best to avoid too many elbows which must affect the water pressure flow. I would like to move the pack and cedar box enclosure about 10 or 12 feet from the tub in an enclosed porch area. 2nd question I will need a longer control cable for the control panel ASAP. thanks Rich Washak Marco Is.

Message: Hello Dieter, I find the VS501Z retro to be a perfect replacement, and thank you for all the help you extended me. However, a small problem has developed. My Top side Control refuses to allow my pump #2 ( blower button ) to function, and my temp button will not function either. The light works as does the number 1 pump ( both stages ), and the temp read out functions to 104 and then the red light turns off and stops heating. When this happened I shut off the power and turned it back on with a 1888.88 showing followed by a 100-63-43 and then a 24, which are the same numbers that showed when I first installed the Balboa. Those numbers are followed by the Pr which lasts about three minutes. Then pump number 1 comes on using stage 2, followed by the -- reading for a couple of minutes. Then pump number 2 comes on for a minute and shows the water temp (99, this evening). Then the red light comes on and it heats promptly to 104, and then the light goes off and heating stops. During that time I can only use the Jets button and the Light button and am unable to change to St or Sc or Sl modes. The Temp and Blower buttons are inoperative, as they are after heating ceases. I would appreciate any suggestions you might pass on to me that might correct this problem. Thanks again, Robert Murphy

Spa Panel Problem or Circuit Board Problem

Deciding whether the Problem is the Panel or the Circuit Board

	Balboa Spa Heaters

Sometimes customers report weird behavior or displays on the panel. This can be occurring on a VL/GL series system, such as a Balboa VS501Z or GS501Z or on a EL/ GL series such as a Balboa EL2000 or GL 2000 or on the new generation BP systems such as a BP1500 or BP2000. For example recently a customer reported that their display is continuously cycling the filter cycle settings FC, F2, F4, F6, F8, FC…... Other customers have experienced a continuously flashing 104F or 40C. While in both of these cases the panel is the suspect problem, there is always a suspicion it might be related to the circuit board. Customers aren’t happy when they receive a replacement hot tub control panel and the same problem is still there. So what can we do to resolve whether the circuit board is also defective or possibly solely responsible for the behavior?

The key is to recognize that the spa pack does not need to have a panel attached to it. It will control to the last settings. However these settings may have been corrupted. So the 1st thing you should do is to bring the circuit board back to its factory default setting, For a VS501Z, for example, this is Standard mode, filter cycle F2 and set point temperature at 99F. This is called “performing a memory reset”. Once you have done so you then turn on the power and observe if the circuit board is controlling properly without a panel attached to it. For example after 4-5 minutes the pump should come on in circulation mode (low speed if only 1 pump is used). After 6-7 minutes there should be 240 volts across the heater element terminals. If you observe this is happening, you can conclude the spa circuit board is most likely good. If it is not happening the circuit board is defective.

Performing the memory reset is done differently with different class spa packs. For an EL/GL spa pack, for example, the A12 dip switch is used to do a memory reset. For a VS/GS system, a memory reset is done using the J43 jumper pins. Turn off the power and reset the jumper so it is set across both pins. Turn on power for 1 minute and then turn it back off. Reset the J43 jumper to be on one pin only. This completes the memory reset and on next power-up the circuit board will control to the factory default settings, mentioned above.

How to Replace Spa Heater Tubes

How to Replace Spa Heater Tube

	Balboa Spa Packs

Note that when the hot tub heater element has failed, the entire heater tube, including the temperature sensors, is swapped out. Balboa does not sell the heater element alone. However if one of the sensors is faulty, it only is replaced. In either case, the replacement the entire Balboa heater tube needs to be removed from the spa pack. Here is how you do it:

	1) Close the two ball valves to isolate the heater from the hot tub. Open the drain bib valve to drain the water that is between the ball valves. This requires also opening the small black vent screw on top of the filter. (you can use this opportunity to clean the filter if you wish).

	2) Use two open ended crescent wrenches and remove the nuts that hold each copper strip to the heater element stud and then pull each copper strip back. The 2nd wrench attaches to the back nut of the stud and you hold it fixed so the stud wire does not get twisted.

	3) Use a 3/8" socket wrench or open ended crescent wrench to remove the two nuts that physically secure the stainless steel tube to the spa pack case.

	4) Unplug the two temperature sensors from the SenA and SenB receptacles of the circuit board. They have a little clip that needs to be pushed in to get them out.

	5) Uncouple both PVC unions at the both ends of the heater tube. This may require a strong wrist action if it is tight or you may even have to use of some other way to loosen these, if they are on very tight. Loosening the female nut requires a CCW rotation.

	6) Now you can remove the entire heater tube assembly. If you are replacing it with a new one, install the new one in reverse order. Left sensor plugs into SenA receptacle.

	7) If you are replacing only one or both of the sensors, first unscrew the black sensor nut and then remove the sensor(s). In some instances to remove the sensor, you may also have to push from the inside using some leaver device that you improvise. Then install the new sensor(s), ensuring the O-ring is present, and reinstall the heater tube assembly in reverse to above.

Spa Controller Replacement

Message: Hello There, I am looking to replace my current Balboa Spa Controller with a new replacement. Previous discussions with you folks (issue #1032 with Dieter Jung & Dan) suggested the Balboa EL2001 M3 controller would fit my needs nicely. After gathering all the specifics of my current system, I created and attached a file with all the necessary information to select the proper replacement items (pdf file). Although it would be nice, I do not know if my current top side controls would be compatible with the new model controller. If a replacement panel is necessary, I only have 10" between two other control knobs where the unit would have to be located. I am not so sure the added features on the more elaborate controllers would be all that necessary for us on this spa. All in all, I am looking for the least painful and cheapest way to get my spa up and running for the winter season (the wife is nagging on me pretty bad - smiles). A retrokit was suggested, and I would assume it would include additional guidance on the setting of the circuit board dip switches as well. I am an Electronic Engineer by trade, so none of that sort of business would be any problem on my end. I would be thankful for any and all assistance you can provide. Dieter made a comment on how the EL2001 M3 is not listed on your site, but is available. He also mentioned that it could be fitted with a 4kW heater at no extra charge because of the flow rate issues with my Iron Might circulation pump and 1" lines. Either way, I am looking for a list of what I would need, what it would cost and how to go about ordering it from you. I noticed the 10% off coupon on your website as well and hope to take advantage of this or any other specials you currently have that are up coming. Hope you folks are having a GREAT day and I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you!! Regards, Richard L. Diercks email: rldiercks@cox.net

Balboa Spa Controller Replacement

Message: Hello There, I am looking to replace my current Balboa Spa Controller with a new replacement. Previous discussions with you folks (issue #1032 with Dieter Jung & Dan) suggested the Balboa EL2001M3 controller would fit my needs nicely. Dieter made a comment on how the EL2001M3 is not listed on your site, but is available. Diercks

Message: Hi, I have two questions. Firstly do you ship to Australia? Second question can you supply a replacement controller, heater and touch pad that will handle the following? 240volt 50cycle AC. two single speed pumps plus 3 speed blower. 2Kw heater. I realize the wiring probably need the plugs to be changed but this is not a problem. My main concern, if you can supply a suitable unit, is with the plumbing. As you can see in the attached photo the old heater fitted in the black tube with the orange label and was connected to the pump behind it. Looking at your units they all appear to have the heater as an integral part of the controller and this may make fitting the unit difficult. If the heater if connected to the pump can it support the weight of the controller or must the controller be attached to the side of the spa to support it? Can you supply adapters so that the heater will fit the Australian plumbing? Best regards Tom

We have had our spar for 3 years now. Recently it throws a circuit and will not stay on. We have gone through and found that every thing works well until we connect the Balboa VS500Z circuit board to the flow through heater via the two nut assemblies. Can you tell me if it is the flow through heater that needs to be replaced? If so what would be the part number and cost of this item? The information on the heater is "5.5Kw 15" 2x2 M7 w/stud, E188744". If additional information is required please let me know. Any advise you can provide would be appreciated. Thank you!

ie) what type of service I have, specs on my current pump and motor (purchased 4 months ago), any specs of my current spa pack that may be of interest?

I don't have a blower, or ozonater. I have an acrylic tub with only 6 jets. At present the tub loses heat as soon as the cover comes off.

I have a Balboa VS501Z system. The system keeps on shutting down - breaker jumps so there is a short circuit somewhere. Someone told me that I probably have a problem with my heater unit. Is this something that you have seen? Heater part # 58083. Is there a number that I can reach you at to discuss? Many thanks
